Selected Project
KidAlign AI
Understanding how children use AI and what safer AI for young users should look like.
Project Overview
This project uses aligned surveys for children, parents, and educators to understand real-world AI use, identify the main safety and learning risks, and translate those insights into practical recommendations for child-safe AI.
Children
How often they use AI, what they use it for, how much they trust it, and whether they share personal information or seek emotional support.
Parents
Awareness of children's AI use, concerns about privacy and monitoring, and the need for stronger controls and guidance.
Educators
Observed classroom use, academic integrity concerns, learning impact, AI literacy needs, and policy requirements.
Research Focus
- Measure how children use AI across learning, creativity, entertainment, advice-seeking, and emotional contexts.
- Compare children's experiences with adult perceptions to surface awareness and supervision gaps.
- Assess risks including misinformation, inappropriate content, risky advice, privacy exposure, dependency, and misuse.
- Identify what support is missing in product design, family guidance, and school policy.
Outcome: Evidence-based recommendations for safer AI systems, better AI literacy, and age-appropriate safeguards for young users.
